Abstract

This article deals with an analysis of “Iphigénie”, a graphic novel by the young Belgian artist Xavier Löwenthal. Our contribution aims to explore the complex relationships between the universe of the book and the universe which it entails, while simultaneously reflecting on the way Löwenthal’s book brings in various scientific theories on the mechanics of the world. Finally, it stresses the dialogue between text and author, more specifically the ways the book proposes the act of reading as a kind of world-making.

Cet article propose une analyse d’« Iphigénie », un album de bandes dessinées du jeune auteur belge Xavier Löwenthal. Explorant les rapports complexes entre l'univers du livre et l’univers tout court, examinant l’apport des théories scientifiques sur la logique du monde (dont celle de Newton) que l’œuvre même interroge, notre contribution cherche avant tout à mettre en lumière le dialogue entre texte et auteur et les stratégies destinées à faire de la lecture une création d’univers.
