Abstract
While graphic novels share some of the same roots as comics, most notably Superman, Asterix and Tintin, the text and plots are not just there to support the colourful panels and tight leotards. Graphic novels often contain complex narrative arcs, explore sophisticated themes and comment on society in considerable depth. They are worth studying in the media classroom.
